March is a great time to prepare for the lush lawn in the Spring of 2011.

As soon as you get a dry day feed the Lawn with Lawn Magic and whilst the ground is soft it is good to aerate, preferably with a proper aerator that takes out a small core but failing all else by using the garden fork spiking every 6 inches or so to a depth of at least 4inches. The lawn should be spiked at least twice in a season - At the beginning and at the end of the season early March and September respectively.

Attack the Moss in your lawn, it is vital that you apply Moss Magic that kills of the moss spores before scarifying if you don't kill off the spores this will spread the moss around your lawn
Next step is to scarify or rake the lawn vigorously to remove all the thatch and dead grass you can buy cheap scarifier/Lawn rake or hire one from the tool hire shop, don't be afraid that the lawn is looking a mess it will very quickly recover.
On mornings that are dry but there is a heavy dew sweep off the surface moisture.

Your Lawn IS ALWAYS UNDER ATTACK FROM -those dreaded pests and diseases that can wipe out your lawn.
Watch out for the Crane fly (Daddy long legs) they will lay their eggs on your lovely wet lawn and when Spring arrives the larvae from the crane fly will hatch into leatherjackets which is disastrous to the lawn they will begin to eat away the roots of your grass.
If in the Spring you have patches of dead grass water the area last thing at night and cover the watered areas with a bin liner held down with any weighty objects such as bricks then early next morning remove the bin liner, if you have leatherjackets they will be on the surfaace of your lawn.

LAWNS WITH WEEDS.

Many people have tried weed and feeds and have been disappointed. We see killing weeds as a 2 stage process. First you should feed your lawn, this will get both your weeds and grass growing strongly. After 2 weeks you should then apply a separate SELECTIVE LAWN WEED KILLER. This will work better because you will have more leaf on the weeds to spray and so it will be much more effective.
Best time to kill weeds is when the weeds are actively growing ie Spring and Summer as the weeds begin to appear. We think that Verdone extra available in all Garden centres and DIY stores is the best although no selective weed killer manages all weeds.
